Alhassan Sheriff was a victim of police brutality from the hands of the police in Kambia, when on Saturday, April 26 this
year, the Local Unit Commander of the Kambia Police Station, Superintendent of Police, Foday Conteh, ordered his junior officers
to arrest him and beat him up.
Sources disclosed that Sheriff was investigating
a matter in which the police had confiscated seven drums of palm oil and five hundred kilos of cannabis.
Alhassan
says it was when he was taking photographs of the items that one senior police officer ordered some junior officers to arrest
and beat him up.
Alhassan says he believes the police boss does not want the story
to be published.
Meanwhile, three people have been arrested and detained in connection
with the seized items.
They are Saidu Bai Kamara who was allegedly
caught with the cannabis, Aminata Kamara, and a Fullah woman whose name was not given by the police who were allegedly caught
with the palm oil.
They are now helping the police with their
investigations.
As we were going to press we learned that upon the intervention
of the Head of the Civil Society in Kambia, Mr. Alusine Jalloh, Alhassan's camera and identity card have been returned
to him.
