Fambul Tok is a community driven project aimed at reconciling communities, victims and perpetrators as well as other key actors in the eleven year old war in Sierra Leone.

This project which was launched with a pilot phase in the eastern district of Kailahun has registered expected successes and has warranted its expansion to the southern district of Moyamba.

In Kailahun, over twenty communities are involved in the cultivation of rice and cassava; this is one of the end results of the mechanism of bringing communities together for development and the sustenance of peace. Recently a monitoring team was in Kailahun to evaluate the gains made so far and observations proved that there are more signs of unity and acceptance in these community.

Using sports as another mechanism for reconciliation Fambul Tok has conceptualized the idea of using football to bring these communities together. These communities are to now compete against each other using sporting gears provided by the project with the aim of solidifying the reconciliation process, in addition to this, free transportation to the various venues are provided by the project. To crown the end of each game of soccer, Fambul Tok has provided a brand musical set which will be used to host a dance at the end of each game. This is also free of cost:  However, there is no bottom line of all these activities to promote reconciliation in the country.

Meanwhile, the Fambul Tok team and a host of journalists Monday left Freetown for Kailahun to formally hand over the kits to the various communities.

The tournament is expected to kick off next week.
