President Koroma Resolves
Tertiary Education Impasse
In his desire to enhance peace and development with a view to moving the
country forward; and being that he has always put a premium on education, which he sees as the polishing industry of young
people, President Ernest Bai Koroma today called to State House all the stakeholders in the impasse regarding educational
courses in tertiary institutions, especially Njala University College. Present at the meeting were members of the Tertiary
Education Committee (TEC), the Acting Vice Chancellor of Njala University and his team, the Minister of Education, the Minister
of Presidential Affairs and the Vice President of the Republic.
After intense deliberations, the following
was agreed:
a)
the TEC will continue its work of reviewing tertiary education unhindered and
should submit a report within six months
b) all courses currently
in the curricula of tertiary institutions will continue
c) students already enrolled
for any courses for this academic year should be allowed to pursue them without any restrictions
Government wishes
to reiterate its commitment to improving not only the quantity but also the quality of education in Sierra Leone, and would
inform all those wishing to seek redress to do so through peaceful channels, as this government is open to negotiations and
compromise in the interest of the welfare of the State.
