APC UK Honors President Koroma in One Year Celebrations
President
Ernest Bai Koroma received special honours and accolades from fellow Sierra Leoneans in the United Kingdom during an anniversary
dance celebrating the APC’s first year in office since taking over the reins of government after the historic elections
last year.
The President could not attend in person but was ably represented by the Minister of Employment
Minkhailu Mansaray at the occasion, which was held at the River of Life Centre, Hatcham Road, Off Ilderton Road, London, on
Saturday 1st November 2008. President Koroma’s absence was satisfactorily compensated for when the Minister
read the full text of the speech the Head of State delivered to Parliament during its state opening on 10th October
2008.
Favourable responses came from the executive and membership of the APC UK branch on the
President’s visionary speech. The theme for the occasion was ‘Let Us Give Ernest Koroma A Chance.’
Among
the key speakers were Mr. Tamba O.P. Sam Sumana (Secretary General), Dr. Adu Aezick Seray-Wurie (Legal Adviser/ Director of
Research & International Affairs) and Mrs. Kumba Alice Momoh (Vice-Chairperson). Deputy High Commissioner to the UK Tamba
Mansa Ngegba delivered the welcome address.
President Koroma urges
AWOL to work with Local Communities
President Koroma today told the executive of All
Walks [which they usually spell ‘Works’] of Life (AWOL) to start thinking out of the box by venturing into new
areas of endeavour, like engaging with local communities in social and charitable activities. “As a group of young Sierra
Leoneans, you should use your abilities to address issues relating to national development,” he said. The Head of State
earlier lauded the group for having succeeded in being consistent with their project, a unique thing that many Sierra Leoneans
lack. He urged them to build on what they have already achieved by creating new structures that would further strengthen the
organization.
The President accepted an invitation to grace the annual celebrations of the group in December
extended by its President Mr. Kweku Lisk, who commended the Head of State for his efforts at developing Sierra Leone, stating
that the nation’s confidence was not misplaced.
AWOL was founded in 2001
and has been famous for granting awards for national achievement to individuals and organizations.
