For the blind to
lead the blind is a farce
It does not equal the blind to the sighted. Fact finding pin pointed
why it does arise the need to have a sighted counterpart in the side of the former Head Teacher of the Milton Margai School
for the Blind, Professor Sam Campbell said. Mr. Albert Sandy who has been Deputy Head Teacher of that school has spent well
over seventeen years of his time to develop the blind to make them become useful in the society.
Whether
the need arises or not for the resignation of the former Head Teacher it is not the responsibility of ex-pupils to appoint
who should succeed the former. It is a truism that the success of the blind disabled is determined by the sighted. It is nonsense
that rational beings seem to be succumbing to the dictates of blind ex-pupils for whatever reasons be they human right or
volunteerism.
No student can challenge the standing fact that he/she is paid enough for attaining
education through their teachers; and point us to the point of empathy which is much trumpeted by the blind pupils.
I denounce
the fact that the headmaster of the blind school before he is filled with empathy for the blind. If that is the case then
it thus suggests that Mr. Sandy, the current acting headmaster has been wasting his precious time all these long years in
humanitarian services.
The question of the mindset of being remorse is not determined
by physical status of assessment. I want to determine that the flimsy excuse given by the blind pupils to vilify their headmaster
was without substance to say the least, all only aimed at giving the man a bad name to hang him.
One can
only imagine what would happen to this country if at this point in time the blind children must dictate to the sighted Sierra
Leoneans on how to run this country.
It is an established fact that the blind and other disabled can be very troublesome,
thus giving credence to the saying that a child does not know what benefits him; he simply does or says things for the kick
he gets out of it.
The interest of this country and the well being of these disabled children
will not be realized to the fullest if they must choose for themselves what they think is good without being in a position
to be the better judges.
I want to say here categorically that the protest by some ex-pupils for the
leadership of the school does not reflect the unanimous views of all pupils. If one should sound the opinions of the pupils
independently the greater percentage of pupils being in favor of Mr. Sandy taking over as headmaster of the school will far
outweigh those against.
To some extent this has a relation to the intensified clarion call of the President
for change of attitudes of Sierra Leoneans. It has emerged that all the allegations levied against Mr. Sandy by some of the
pupils to paint him black have all proved to be baseless and untrue by an independent body that undertook investigations into
the matter.
This signals signs of worrisome and ill-motivated attitudes that some Sierra
Leoneans are not worthy to have the country's future entrusted into their hands. Perhaps these are some of the trivial
issues the Government must tackle to prevent further distress.
It would sound ugly that war normally emanates from a minority
who hold on to views that are illogical, warped and senseless. But to be frank with all concerned, letting loose the blind
to prevail with their illogical ideologies can only spell doom for an institution that has stood the test of time.
Listening
to the wicked tones of their voices when they speak on the radio every rational being would realize that their motion is ill-motivated
and their agenda is dark and sinister.
The word of caution here is for them to realize that nobody is born a ruler.
That is why it takes no physical features of a person to presume blindness to become a blind school headmaster. For whatever
the reason would be it is for the good of the blind that they need a sighted headmaster for their guidance.
