For Pursuing Studies - 55 Police Officers Salaries Withheld
The Lawyers
Centre for Legal Assistance has written a letter in the case of fifty five police officers who have had their salaries withheld
for pursuing various courses in tertiary institutions.
In a memorandum written by the Assistant Inspector General
of Police for Personnel Welfare to the divisional heads, the junior police officers are pursuing what they referred to as
unauthorized courses in tertiary institutions without study leave should discontinue their courses by the end of 31st January
2008 or their salaries would be withheld.
The letter viewed the decision as an unfair administrative practice and demands
for an urgent review of the matter in order to save the institution from further embarrassment and high handedness.
The letter
appeals to the Vice President, Chief Sam Sumana, who is the Head of the Police Council to speedily review the decision.
“Education
is a right that should not be limited by administrative decision,” the letter concluded.
