| Abdul Hassan Fackie - the big catch! |
Big Catch
The negotiations have
been very long and windy; one big problem being that the fellow had been so always difficult to put down.
Normally
highly gifted men are always restless as the power in them keeps them constantly on the move.
Well
finally one of these very fine days, the bait was swallowed and bam, the hook was in-we finally landed the big catch we have
been cajoling all these long months. The name Abdul Hassan Fackie is not strange to many households in
this country. He is a writer, an actor, a preacher, a teacher, and a one of this nation's most original, humourous and
biting gossip writers.
He created and wrote the Busy Bee column in the Standard Times Newspaper until
his resignation in 2002.
He also created the Searchlight for the New Citizen Newspaper and the Quiver
in the Quill.
He has edited a few newspapers and magazines like the Quill, the New People,
Newswave and Sierra Eye.
He is fearless but a fair commentator, a man whose objectivity is legendary.
He has undoubtedly spent the better part of his adult life in Journalism
I have had the honour
and privilege of working with him both at the Newswave and New People and the fellow is a complete gentleman with a steel
resolve who cannot compromise principles, not even on pain of death.
When this maverick pen
man finally agreed for us to carry his name in our imprint on our Friday, April, 24 edition, there was celebration at the
office.
To have this literary giant in our midst is an inspiration. I know that under his tutelage
we will learn and thrive and Sierra Express will stand up to be counted among the leading newspapers in this country.
Prove
me.
Bra you nar bra.
