| President
Ernest Bai Koroma and VP Sam Sumana |
Will APC Survive Five Years?
Perhaps one of
the gifts of the writer is his ability to look at events taking place and like a clairvoyant, predict the future.
The
events taking place in our country since President Ernest Bai Koroma was sworn in on September 17 last year continue to be
worrisome and from all indications they do not seem to be abating, rather they seem to be progressing at an alarming rate.
As if all the forces of hell were waiting for the APC to take over the reins of power of this nation
everything has just gone out of spin.
There is now general hardship never before experienced in this country,
lawlessness now seems to be the norm, thieving of state funds has reached unimaginable proportions, the educational, health
and other social services are in limbo, physical filth continues to pile as nobody seems to care and disease and death seem
to be having a field day.
Now all over the country hardly a day passes without one hearing of violent
events taking place in this or that part of the country.
Right across the country daily news of one form of
lawlessness or the other is constantly on the air waves and most of these activities are normally attributed to the use of
political power or carried out in the name of the APC.
The sad thing is that the APC never bothers to either
dissociate itself from them nor investigate and prosecute such offenders.
This is bad as
it gives credence to the attributions.
While we are not saying this is the case or not the case, we believe
that silence on these matters continues to give the party a very bad name, gradually eroding their popularity.
Elsewhere
we have pointed out that there are a lot of leopards in the APC, a spill over of the old school of the Stevens and Momoh eras
who thrived on terror, lawlessness and brazen corruption who will never change their spots and who see Ernest Koroma and his
new APC adherents as a threat to their very survival.
This class will do anything to reclaim their place
in history and by extension they will end up undermining and derailing the good and noble intensions of President Koroma.
Like an albatross they are now so wrapped around our President's neck that it he does not extricate his neck form their
grip they will soon sniff out his political life and that of the party.
It is too soon
for the volume and extension of the cries of the masses against the APC.
Even their own
supporters are now condemning them, and other camps that threw in their lot with them regretting the day they gave them their
votes.
President Koroma needs to prove to the people of this country that indeed this new APC will not allow the old APC to reassert
itself and subject this nation to the foul tactics that characterized the Stevens/Momoh eras.
If he does not
put this class under control, the peace, unity, freedom and equality that form the bedrock of his aspirations for this country
will only remain a fleeting dream in his mind and come 2012 the people will reject him and his party massively at the polls.
