I very much welcome this opportunity to participate in your consultations in my capacity as the Chair of the Peacebuilding Commission’s Country-Specific Meetings on Sierra Leone.

ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION


Francis Gabbidon - Arrested

Mr. Francis Gabbidon, former Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone was arrested on Thursday, April 17, 2008 by the Anti-Corruption Commission which is investigating allegations of offences contrary the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 as amended. The investigation concerns Mr. Gabbidon’s tenure as Ombudsman between 2000 and 2007 and he is currently helping the Commission with its enquiries.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday 6th March 2008 arrested 12 (twelve) Officials of the Customs and Excise Department of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) and 1 (one) Police Officer, for various offences under the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 (as amended).    The 13 (thirteen) Officials are currently assisting the Commission with its investigations.  The public will be kept abreast with developments.
