For the blind to lead the blind is a farce

It does not equal the blind to the sighted. Fact finding pin pointed why it does arise the need to have a sighted counterpart in the side of the former Head Teacher of the Milton Margai School for the Blind, Professor Sam Campbell said. Mr. Albert Sandy who has been Deputy Head Teacher of that school has spent well over seventeen years of his time to develop the blind to make them become useful in the society. (Read more ...)

Should Commercial Drivers Go On Strike?

Last week, commercial drivers (Poda Poda & Okada) took action that could best be described as a strike. That action disrupted social activities in the city of Freetown. Reasons that lead to the strike action were cloudy as drivers refused to talk to the public or bring it to the public forum. However, according to the outspoken chairman of the Regent Road Drivers Association, Abu Kargbo, (commonly known as Igwe), the strike action was as a result of the daily unlawful detention that drivers have been subjected to in past three months. The State of Lawlessness is Becoming Norm

The promises of the APC are being fast implemented by both the government and the citizens.  The attitudinal change campaign is a grand farce.  Imagine President Ernest Bai Koroma regretting him ever opting for the leadership of Sierra Leone! (Read more ...)

The Problem Of Price Control

Since the government of President Koroma came to power, the price of commodities has continued to rise at a rate the average Sierra Leonean can not easily understand.  Most of the times the excuse being given is the increase in price at the world market.  Early this year, the government came out with a long proposal to tackle price increases.  (Read more ...)

Political Intimidation - Will It Work In Sierra Leone Nowadays?

I remember when I was a small boy and politics were regarded as a "Do or Die" game. I am talking about in the early seventies. During those times, politics were not meant for those who can exert more violence on the opponent. It was the "survival of the fittest."  (Read more...)

Letter to the President

His Excellency sir,

I salute you sir. I have added the respect I have for you. You are the kind of leader we are looking for in this country. When I was made to understand that you called Dr. Sylvia Blyden to tell her that you were not involved in her arrest, I was like making my final journey to heaven to meet Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad. I felt I was on top of the world. This is the first time I have heard that a President of Sierra Leone calls a journalist to tell him/her sorry for embarrassment inflicted on the person in the name of that president. I wonder if you are coming from the same country as we do? I am flattered by that action of yours. (Read more ...)

Sitting on a Powder Keg

There are genuine reasons to think that Sierra Leone is moving towards violence once again. The series of incidents occurring between the two main political parties cannot be classified as anything more than preparation for violence. In Bo, there is still the replica of tension of the violent attack on the SLPP office by the APC youths. In Pujehun tension is building up on the issue of the painting of the Court Barray red. In Freetown, APC and SLPP youths clashed on the issue of the arrest of Dr. Sylvia Blyden; Publisher of the Awareness Times Newspaper. (Read more ...)

Letter to the President

His Excellency Sir,

I am not as pleased as I am used to being when I wrote you previous letters. I am worried and disturbed about the stability of the country. I am disturbed because I don't want to even think about the bad situation that took place in Bo. That was a case that may return this country to those nasty days of war. (Read more ...)

Bo Price Control! Who Orders It?

The increase in violence, intimidation and harassment of innocent citizens by hungry and selfish thugs is becoming worrisome. Letter to the President

His Excellency Sir,

This time I am writing with heavy heart and concern about the future of our country Sierra Leone. Some days ago, a pastor was dragged out of his house by APC youths and was seriously beaten. According to the pastor, he did not do anything that warranted his molestation. The pastor in an interview with one of the radio stations; said that he was serving as a moderator in an accident tussle when these APC young people resorted to beating him. He said that he was beaten, dragged in a black jeep, chained, put under gun point and taken to the APC headquarters’ office. At the office, according to the pastor, he was given a further beating until someone identified him as a pastor at a time the said Pastor was almost hopeless. This kind of situation has led me to write you this letter. (Read more ...)

Letter to the President

Your Excellency Sir,

In the last letter I wrote to you, I informed you about a gang of young men and women that are harassing peaceful citizens around the country. These young men are even worse now, if you do not take action, it may result to something very severe because when the harassment is enough for Sierra Leoneans, they will act in defense of themselves. Please sir, these guys are thieves but they are using the name of your party, APC, to bring disrepute to your rule. You must stop them. I am sorry if I am using a hard word but I must. I am not able to think of another word at the time of writing because of the stress. (Read more ...)

A Reflection of the Past Government's Contractual Arrangements

A reflection of the past government's contractual arrangements can uncover systematic political incompetence and victimisation on the part of the SLPP led Government. The result has been a blackmail of small, medium and large-scale entrepreneurs; something the APC government should draw a lesson from. (Read more ...)
