City Council commissions New Community Center
The Freetown City Council working in close collaboration
with the central government has constructed and officially opened a Community Center at Ambrose Street in the Central 1 constituency.

The ceremony was attended
by top government officials and over five hundred elders and youths of Central 1. Addressing the mammoth crowd, the representative
of the Vice President of Sierra Leone, Honourable Balogun Koroma, said that the present Freetown City Council under the leadership
of His worship the acting Mayor of Freetown, Councilor Herbert George Williams, is now a new council, and recognized the huge
steps that were taken to achieve the dreams by the hard working and honest citizens of Freetown. He said that the constraint
of such a large Community Center is no small achievement.
Honourable Koroma assured the Freetown City Council
management that the central government would continue to support development programmes. The Minister of State pointed out
that he was reliably informed that the junction of Ambrose Street by the Regent Road market was damaged due to large pot-holes
and broken slabs.
Honourable Koroma gave the sum of Le 500,000 to the youth at that constituency because
of their good work. The youth of Central 1 Community Development minded task upon themselves to do self-help maintenance on
the road and other places.
In his key note of address as the acting mayor of Freetown, Herbert George
Williams said that communities were unable to meet councilors during their past three and half years from Freetown City Council
due to unfavorable working conditions. He said now that he is at the helm of things, the next three to
six months would see a notable achievement in the Community Development drive in Central 1 and beyond.
Concluding,
Mr. Williams strongly appealed to members of the general public to come to 17 Wallace Johnson Street were the Freetown City
Council is located to pay their rates for Houses, Licences for Shops, Omolankays, and local tax payable by men and women residing
in Freetown, otherwise less community development efforts would take place. Mr. Williams pointed out that this Community Center
would be used for social activities, community meetings and other important activities.
He pleaded with
residents of Freetown to support their council. The Community Center was named the Brima Eleganza Community Center. Other
notable speakers of the ceremony were Honourable Kalokoh who represents the Minister of Interior Local Government and Rural
Development, Honourable Osho Williams, and the resident councilor, Mrs. Mariama Seray Sesay.
The ceremony was
chaired by Agbawo of Central 1 Constituency.
