Bad Governance destroyed State Institution

Bad Governance destroyed State Institution

At a well attended extraordinary meeting of the steering committee held at State House, the Minister of Presidential and Public Affairs, Mr. Alpha Khan, said that bad governance in Sierra Leone over decades has a direct consequence on the collapse of the State Institutions and the outbreak of the decade civil conflict in the country.

The minister said that the government is committed to fulfill its obligation under regional and international initiative for promoting good governance through the implementation of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRAM) of the Africa Union. Effort to push consensus on governance is the strengthening partnerships among stakeholders and ultimate contribution to improve governance in a laudable venture which any well meaning government will not afford to downplay.

Hon. Alpha Khan said that the aim of the APRAM is to promote transparency and integrity in governance. He recalled that, His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma in his inaugural speech spoke of the need for Sierra Leoneans to change their attitude and develop a culture of honesty, integrity and patriotism. He also said that the APRAM mechanism by itself cannot effect such attitudinal change as honesty and integrity come from within and is the foundation of good governance. He further noted that APRAM will help us measure our progress in all of the core focus areas. Hon. Alpha Khan promised that his government is committed to good governance and with the immergence of their government Sierra Leone will change its face.
