Violence at Njala University
A first
year student of the HTC secondary programme at the Njala University, Bo Campus, Hawa Mansaray, was recently alleged to have
stabbed her boyfriend, Chernor Tunkara, also a first year student H.T.C. secondary programme of the same college to death.
According to one David Ndanema, a friend of the deceased of the same programme and college,
Tunkara and Ndanema were studying for their 1st semester exams one night when Hawa Mansaray of hostel block E, room number
22, of the college sent a text message to Tunkara’s cellular mobile phone, inviting Tunkara to her hostel room.
David
Ndanema, the friend of the deceased, said that he advised Tunkara not to go to Hawa's room as they had been previously
arguing, but said he should stay and continue reading. “Shortly after, Hawa sent another text message
to Tunkara again inviting him to her room. It was at this time that Tunkara reluctantly left the study group to meet Hawa"
Ndanema said. He continued to explain that, Hawa on seeing Tunkara attacked the deceased and started fighting
him accusing him of having affairs with another girl. Ndanema said that was explained to him by the roommates of Hawa Mansaray.
He said that the roommates told him that they saw Hawa take a knife out from her dress and instantly stabbed Tunkara. Ndanema.
Hawa then shouted in surprise of her inhuman act. After Hawa had stabbed the deceased the roommates tried to arrest
Hawa and she started to run away but when she realized that she was unable to escape she returned to the scene and removed
the knife from Tunkara's body.
There and then, Hawa was apprehended by her college colleagues who alarmed
and forwarded her to the college authorities, who in turn forwarded the matter to the Bo police.
After
thorough investigation by the Bo police, the matter was sent to the Magistrate’s Court presided by Magistrate Deen Tarawally.
Meanwhile, the deceased has been laid to rest while the assassin has been remanded.
