Boat Owners meet Guinea
Counterparts
The Sierra Leone United Boat Owners Association has held a consultative talk
(agreement) with their counterpart at Bushra Port in Guinea, on the 14th February 2008. The purpose of the consultative talk
was to smooth the relationship between the Sierra Leonean business community and the authorities in Bushra port which most
Sierra Leonean business people use to transport their goods. According to the Deputy Chairman of the organization, Mr. Mohamed
Bangura aka 55, a delegation left Freetown for Guinea headed by the Chairman of the organization, Sheku Tejan Turay. Mr. Bangura
said the aim of their meeting was to implore the Sierra Leone Guinea Boat Owners and Passengers relationship which has being
lacking or floating their concerns over the years.
Mr. Bangura said that they are trying to improve and map
out strategies for customers/ passengers relationship. Among issues discussed was the over speeding by the boats when on the
high sea and the fixing of permanent schedule for boats from Freetown to Guinea and vice visa. The deputy chairman said that
after having proper talks with their counterparts in Guinea, the meeting was replicated at Susan’s Bay on Friday 22nd
February this year, this time with the involvement of the Sierra Leone Police and the Customs. During this meeting the Chairman
for the organization, Mr. Sheku Tejan Turay, reported the outcome of the meeting in Guinea was very positive and that passengers
and other customers fully participated. The Vice President placed emphasis on the new strategy that has been formulated with
their counterparts in Guinea to be respected.
Mr. Turay said already a team of five men will be leaving
the shores of Susan’s Bay for Guinea Bushra Port. The purpose of this delegation also is to ascertain the illegal by-passing
attitude which is sometimes known as condo an act paying proper taxation and he said as an organization they are totally against
such malpractice in the up coming future.
