SLPDA &
GMWU Interim Body on Peace Sensitization Tour Nationwide
The newly appointed
body of the Sierra Leone Professional Drivers Association & GMWU headed by MB Williams, a trade unionist, has held a reconciliatory
meeting with disputed factions of the union. Addressing his audience, chairman M.B. Williams told the general membership to
be peaceful and avoid lawlessness to push the country forward. He remarked that today marks the laying to rest of all personal
vendettas that was within the membership of the union.
He disclosed that it was the ill motive of some members that
culminated to the diatribe amongst members of the drivers union. He described this development as unfortunate.
Chairman
M.B. Williams maintained that the union is an important organ that is contributing to national development. He warned that
if the union membership is not properly organized then it will be heading for a disaster.
Coordinator
of Youth Task Force; Mr. Ibrahim Sesay, repeatedly stated that, since the interim body was appointed by the Transport Minister,
three months ago, members have been keeping a free for all pace without submitting any dues to the interim body. He observed
that a cross section of the membership have been busy collecting money for themselves instead of the union.
Also
in the meeting, the leader of the pressure group, Musa Conteh, vehemently denied that drivers are not respectful to their
elders and warned all drivers to be humble and respectful. In his conclusion, Mr. Conteh called on the members to adhere to
