Kainde Bangura lauds SLRA as Fourah Bay Road reopens to traffic

The Director of Maintenance, Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Mr. C.Y. Johnson, has confirmed the completion of the cross drain construction along Fourah Bay Road and the Eastern Police intersection. This 28 day exercise, which led to the temporary closure of the Fourah Bay Road to vehicular traffic, also enabled the authority to carry out premix patching and the re-construction of sidewalls.

On Friday, 14th March,2008 the much clogged up traffic at the East end of the city was normalized as motorists can now breathe a sigh of relief and commuters can enjoy the smooth and safe ride and also consume less time to transact business in the township.

The intensification of road maintenance in the city in recent times has been acclaimed by all and sundry, especially a popular business woman and seasoned Politician, Madam Kainde Bangura. She did not mince her words in giving praise where it is due. "SLRA has done marvelous work on our roads in the city," she declared and added "I congratulate and thank the management for work well done."

In other regions, similar premix patching exercises have commenced in Kenema and Bo, whilst the CRE Makeni Alhaji Dixon Thorlie is in preparation to start the patching on roads in Makeni Town and on the Makeni-Kabala Road.

The Rogbere-Pamlap (Old Road) maintenance is also in full gear with SLRA grading and reshaping the road to smoothen the travel for commuters there whilst the Up Gun-Masiaka Road, which has developed potholes, are being filled and leveled.

With the Bridges and Ferries Unit, the multi-million bridge construction project at Jingama, linking Soro Gbema Chiefdom and Pujehun Town, will resume soon. The Contractor, New Platinum, is making necessary preparation to restart, and this time finish the job. SLRA has also identified the Magbalia Bridge linking Makeni-Kamakwie Road for construction. The bridge is narrow and provides poor sight distance for modern vehicles.
