Police Ban Children in Bo Night Clubs
The Police in Bo, Southern
Sierra Leone have expressed dismay over school going children into night clubs. Early this week the Local Unit Commander (LUC)
in Bo, Mr. F.U.K. Daboh, expressed his worry that children below the age of 18 years are frequently visiting entertainment
spots especially late in the night.
The LUC said that the prevailing circumstances lead to much social vices such
as poor performance in public exams, the use of drugs, and the indecent assault on girls by male adults. "It is against
this background, the Police are placing a ban, and also setting up a task force, to enforce the ban," the no-nonsense
LUC lamented. LUC Daboh said that, they will arrest defaulters at night within Bo City especially after 12 midnight. Mr. Daboh
continued to say that such actions will drastically minimize and virtually eradicate this social nuisance.
On hearing
the LUC's message, many parents, guardians, and the general public, welcomed the idea and encouraged him to go ahead with
it. Some parents that Sierra Express talked to said that it is the first time the Police have started to attend to this kind
of social problem and that this should be sustained. Some parents asked the LUC to plead with proprietors of entertainment
centers to make it a law that kids should not stay there after midnight.
A senior citizen of
Bo (name withheld) told this press that Mr. Daboh must be a very intelligent man to initiate such a strategy stop children
from going bad. The senior citizen said "this was how Bo was like in our days. We were closely watched by not only our
parents but our community also". He said that this is an obvious way to bring development to a country. Many people expressed
their gratitude to LUC Daboh and asked him to talk to his colleagues all over the country to copy the same strategy. The LUC
has given orders to his Police officers to sustain the rules and will not relax the law for anybody. He said that everybody
should be treated equally.
Speaking to one of the Sergeants responsible for enforcing the proposed plan,
Sgt. Michael Kelly Dumbuya, spoke tough that the orders of the LUC will be fully respected and police officers have been properly
briefed of their expected behavior in executing their duties. He said that a task force has already been set by the LUC and
stated that they are well prepared to ensure that the order is rigidly and professionally enforced.
He disclosed
that they will also embark on school sensitization to make the children know their rights and obligations. He concluded that
the police are now ready to teach children the importance of maintaining discipline, law, and orders.
