Bumbuna Residents Give Up their Homes for the Advancement of Sierra Leone

The Minister of Energy and Power, Honorable Haja Afsatu Kabbah, has officially resettled hundreds of Bumbuna residents to the town of Fadugu in the Bombalie district in order to give them a beautiful working environment, as His Excellency the President is working on plans to get the Bumbuna Hydroelectric Project on its feet.

Speaking to the resettles on the 22 March 2008, Madam Afsatu Kabbah thanked the people of Bumbuna for the support and understanding shown to the Ministry’s demand. She said it is really hard for the people and herself; as a human being she knows how difficult it is living in a place where one has been for as long as Adam and Eve, and then having to relocate for a reason other than personal choice.

She further said, they have already completed 21 houses out of the expected 500, and they have already commenced to build the 479 remaining houses. She further said that now they have started to build these houses, she would make sure that work doesn’t stop because they want to ensure that each and every Bumbuna resident regains their property as it was before.

President Koroma, also assured the people that on no account will they ever be kicked out of their homes by anyone, because the premises belong to the inhabitants and each has claim to his/her own bona fide property.

The president also extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to each relocated person for making this event possible.

President Koroma confidently promised the people that if anyone ever or even attempted to take up a cutlass against a resident there, they as a government will bring guns to chase them out.

The President also assured the people that the Bumbuna Hydro will be on its feet before the end of this year. He further stated that he will make sure that the loss of the residents farming season this year will not go in vain; he stated that he will put plans together in order for them all to have something to start with to meet the upcoming season.

The completion of the Bumbuna Hydroelectric Project will bring to fruition the nation's long-awaited step to secure a reliable power supply. The completion of the project will enhance economic development and provide opportunities to improve the quality of life for the nation.
