Mysterious Theft at Eastern Police
Station
At the Eastern Police Station, some few days ago, Mohamed Sidibay became surprised
when he walked out of the station and found out that his XL 125 motorbike with registration number ACC 786 had been stolen.
The motorbike, according to the police report, was parked at the entrance of the East End
Police Station, by Mohamed Sidibay, on that fateful day he entered into the station to settle matters between himself and
a relative, Alimu Jalloh.
Alimu Jalloh had been in detention for two days and Mohamed
was called upon to come to the Police Station to search out an amicable way in settling the matter. While
Mohamed was inside the Police Station negotiating, his motorbike was stolen in front of the police in broad daylight.
Sidibay
immediately reported the matter to the police. Preliminarily, the police obtained a statement from Sidibay
and the matter was assigned to Constable 8589 Cowan for investigation. Senior Police officers at the station
are not treating the matter lightly and have therefore ordered officers to make all effort to reprimand the criminal.
Mohamed
Bangura, an onlooker, described the incident as "mysterious and unfortunate". He said that it is shameful for a
theft to broadly take place in an area that is supposed to be most secured. A thorough investigation is going on.
However,
several complaints have been flooding into our office about lawlessness at the command area of the Eastern Police Station.
According to our reporter, thieves are standing in front of the Police Station chasing people the whole
day. Snatching and thieving other valuable items from people is the commonest thing to happen around the
Eastern Police. At the Clock Tower, the idle young rub shoulders with Police Officers but none of them
are being checked.
It is reported that these young men that stand at the Clock Tower use
that place to watch people's movement and later dash onto them to steal their property. Residents of
the area are disgusted with the laissez-faire attitude of the police in handling the situation. At the
time of going to press, the LUC of the Eastern Police station was not available for his reaction.
