The leading mobile network in Sierra Leone, CELTEL on Friday 28th March, 2008 held their “Star Search” semi-final at the Family Kingdom Resort at Aberdeen.
 

 
The program hosted dignitaries from Freetown and other parts of the country, and abroad.  Speaking at the ceremony, one of the MC's of this prestigious event, Abu Bakarr Kanu of Kalleone Radio Station, said that CELTEL is doing their best to give quality, clarity, and the best coverage to Sierra Leoneans. He stated that CELTEL has made a lot of promotions in the country just to make life better for the people of Sierra Leone in their own little way, and they will continue to make it better.

 

He highlighted that “Star Search” is one of the biggest promotions Celtel has ever made so far, providing an opportunity to young talented Sierra Leoneans from all over the country.

 

He further said, initially CELTEL started with 400 young artists, in which 390 have been eliminated and only 10 made it through the semi final.

 

The 10 contestants that took part in the semi final were:

 

  • Adrian Lewis
  • Alusine Bayoh (Shaggy)
  • Daniella Grant
  • Danny Strasser Williams
  • Ibrahim Bakarr
  • Jane Peters
  • Joselia Gbondo
  • Sia Nanah Yambasu
  • Solomon Flicker
  • Bintu Kamara

 At the end of the first round, a few of them were unable to make their mark but they were given the opportunity for a second round.

The judges of the show were Neah King, Vicky Fornah, and George Boweni.  After they have successfully compiled the result, Mr. Mahmoud Idriss, is the Chief Investment Officer of NASSIT, handed the result to one of the MC's - Nancy Bangura of Capital Radio, to announce the qualifiers for the finals.

Only five of the contestants eventually made it through to the final.  Danny Strasser Williams emerged with the highest points, followed by Jane Peters who came second, followed by Adrian Lewis, Joselia Gbondo, and Sia Nanah Yambasu.  The other five contestants failed to make it through.

Side attractions were given by various artists including Star Zero, A-Class of Bow Wow Society, Vamboi from the Wan Pot comedians and other local artists.


The ceremony ended with celebrations from the families of the qualified artists.

 

The final will be held on the 12th April at the same venue.
