The caretaker
coach of the Leone Stars, Mohamed Kanu alias "Long Throw,” has refuted rumours that he has been sacked. Speaking
to our reporter, Mohamed Kanu disclosed that he still has the responsibility of training the National team and has the blessing
of the sports minister and his deputies.
Explaining to Sierra Express about his trip to Europe, the caretaker
coach revealed that he took the tour to Europe to get himself informed and have personal contacts with players abroad. According
to him the trip was personally sponsored and funded by himself.
Coach Kanu intimated that he wants to produce a formidable
squad for the African cup of Nations and the World Cup has qualifying matches.

Throw, as he is commonly known, commented on the national league by making the remarks that Sierra Leone has not got any organized
and competitive league compared to the days when he was playing football in Sierra Leone.
Meanwhile,
FIFA has given Sierra Leone until April 4th 2008 to identify a venue where they can be playing their matches; which
football fans are very doubtful if the deadline will be met. However, a source from SLFA says that the
Association is making frantic efforts to meet the deadline.
Sources from the sports ministry have reveled that the minister
in charge of sports. Dr. Gassimu. has advised the SLFA to resolve their problem otherwise the ministry shall not support the
association. It has been revealed that the Secretary General of SLFA and the president are at bitter conflict.
