Traffic Wardens and the Ticket Saga

Since it became law to issue tickets in September 2003 by Parliament, a lot of vehicle owners have been faced with problems from traffic wardens. An unhappy taxi driver Ibrahim Kamara aka Gullit expressed his bitterness for the wardens whom he classes as crooks.

He said these people are more dangerous than the police officers. They take bribes and behave as if they are innocent. Gullit further stated that drivers who do not comply with corrupt practices would be forced to receive tickets without warning.

Gullit explicitly explained that after having paid lots of money for licenses, with dismay the Road Transport Authorities (RTA) will inform they want extra money for imaginary tickets. If one fails to pay these monies for a day or two, more tickets will be added to list of tickets that were initially asked to be paid.

Concerned persons are suggesting that the Anti-Corruption Commission should start to investigate the RTA.

When speaking to one Mr. Alusine Bangura, owner of a private vehicle, he furiously said that, traffic wardens are one of the most corrupt people in the country. He said that the wardens are now in the habit of issuing tickets rampantly without any reason. He said the worrying side of the whole thing is that the Wardens have selected vehicles numbers with them that they issue tickets to.

Momoh Conteh a Poda Poda driver, running from Freetown to Waterloo, told Sierra Express that every two days, traffic wardens will issue tickets to him because he is not succumbing to their bribery cabal. He said that this act is close to making him to loose his job.

At the time of writing it has not been possible to get in touch with the head of the traffic wardens though all efforts were made to do so.
