100 Civil Servants Sent On Leave and 40 More To Follow

In Sierra Leone, a change of government always means a change in the administrative system. In less than seven months of rule; the APC government have sent about 100 civil servants on leave and 40 more are to follow.

According to the Establishment Secretary, Mr. Julius Sandy, 100 civil servants have been served with leave letters and forty more are to follow.  Talking to Sierra Express newspaper in a snap interview, Mr. Sandy explained that the leave letters comprise of terminal and annual leave.

He said that those persons that have reached the age of retirement has been asked to go on leave to retirement and those that are suppose to take their annual leave have also been asked to do so. Although Mr. Sandy refused to give the appropriate categories of people that have been sent on leave, it is understood that top civil servants have been sent to retirement.

When asked why he is refusing to give the names, Mr. Sandy said "it is my discretion to disclose information on the civil service and that includes leave or retirement information". The confusing thing about the Establishment Secretary's response is that no proper reason has been proffered for the massive leave letters to civil servants. It is still obscure as to the kinds of leave that have been given to civil servants and the reasons behind it all.
