AFRICELL Sponsors Amputee Football Team
AFRICELL
one of the leading Cell Phone companies in Sierra Leone has donated US $8,748 to the Amputee National Football Team as part
of their preparation for the up-coming 2nd Edition of the African Amputee Nations Cup to be held in Liberia. The team left
on the 29th March 2008 for Monrovia. Six teams are expected to participate; Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, Angola
and South Africa.
Speaking to Sierra
Express, the President of the Amputee Football Association, Jabati Mambu, disclosed that the team has been encamped at
the S.L.F.A football academy in Kingtom. The team has gone through an intensive training program for the encounter. According
to him, with the rigorous and professional training they have undergone it is very sure that the team will win the cup.
Mambu also expressed his profound
gratitude to AFRICELL for sponsoring their trip to Liberia but was quick to mention that the team needs more funding if the
boys are expected to win the prestigious trophy. “If other commercial houses support us as AFRICELL have, we will surely
bring the cup home. With the help of God, nothing can stop us,” Mambu boasted
