Calaba Town – Rampant Armed Robberies

“I really wonder if the purpose of the police is to protect life and property?” These were the words of the downcast local chief for the Calaba Town community, Chief Pa Alimamy Entention Kargbo. He was talking on the persistent complaints made by residents of Wellington and Calaba Town on the rampant robbery in the two areas. The frustrated chief said that for the past four months his people have been victims of robbery and this complaint has reached the police at Calaba Town but no serious action has been taken.

He said that even though the matter has been reported to the Officer Commanding, Calaba Town Police Station, Franklin Yayah Conteh, the only positive thing that came out of it is a promise made by the OC that he will forward the complaint to the Officer in Charge of Operations, Superintendent Max A Kanu at the Kissy Police Station Division.

The chief said that the problem is centered on the increase of drug cartels (ghettos), especially the latest one at Taylor Street, Wellington known as Portor Portor. The chief with vexation said that the Porto Porto is a threat to every one in the area especially school children. The chief has appealed to the authorities concerned especially the police bosses to help solve the problem.
