First National Kick Boxing Championship This Month
The first National Kick Boxing
championship will take place at the National Stadium on April 26, this year, the President of the Sierra Leone Association
of Martial Arts, Mr. Idriss Massaquoi disclosed to Sierra Express.
Mr. Idriss
Massaquoi went on to state that his association was embarking on this competition to feature out new talents they can be able
to tap for the national team, whilst further intimating that kick boxing is a very strange game in the country.
Therefore,
he said that it was good to allow the competitors to get used to the game together with the spectators, adding that apart
from kick boxing, the association also comprises other disciplines including Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, to name but a few.
The above
named sporting disciplines are not unusually popularly widely practiced in this country as a result of the negligence of the
previous regime, which had less interest in them.
Idriss Massaquoi also disclosed that the competition is open
for all the teams and from it they will determine the national team coach, who should be an indigene of this country but trained
by Mr. Johnny from Iceland.
A stock of teaching equipment meant for the Martial Arts Association is still
perishing at the Queen Elizabeth Quay waiting to be cleared. The Martial Arts Association president is
appealing to the Sports Council to facilitate clearing them.
