Protest against Acting Chairman of Council
The three
aspirants for the Chairmanship of the Western Area Rural District Council, namely Mr. Nat Lamin, Councilor Abu Bakarr Bangura,
Mr. Moses Y. Conteh and the community elders. are protesting against the imposition of a candidate of the western area rural
district council according to a letter addressed to the Secretary General of the APC Symbol Award committee, the Sierra Leone
Association of Journalists, and the Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission.
According
to them, on the 3rd April, 2008, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Victor C. Johnson, and the Deputy Minister of Finance,
Hon. Momodu Kargbo, presented Mr. Alhassan Cole allegedly who is not having a voter I.D. card and having not voted during
the past parliamentary and presidential elections as the sole candidate for the chairmanship of the Western Area Rural District
Council. Hon. Victor C. Johnson is accused of flagrantly negating the presence of two aspirants for that
position - Mr. Nat Lamin and Mr. Moses Y. Conteh after having met and disclosed their intention to him in his office and residence
at Waterloo.
They wrote him a letter of application for the position of chairmanship in
the Western Area Rural District Council and they further said they were educated and competent personnel to head council rather
than Alhassan Cole, who is alleged to be corrupt and incompetent.
Presently, the people
are ready to prosecute Cole to the Anti-Corruption Commission, (ACC), for the embezzlement of council funds at a sand mine
at Sugar Land at Goderich area in Freetown.
According to unconfirmed
sources, His Excellency, the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is against the involvement of Hon. Johnson and Hon. Momodu Kargbo
in this corrupt practice that will smear the image of the party.
Alhassan Cole has already awarded himself the party symbol,
the red sun by printing T. shirts, banners and logos, proofs of evidence snap shots.
