Raymond Bai Kamara
IG Acha Kamara Maligned
“The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Brima Acha Kamara
is a man of principle and good repetition,” this was said by the Police Media Director, Inspector Ibrahim Samura. He
was speaking to various members of the media on Friday at the Police Headquarters concerning a publication that was published
by the Spectator Newspaper on Thursday 10th April 2008, captioned BIG SYNDICATE EXPOSED!!! IG IN FRAUD SCAM and in the Exclusive
Newspaper of Friday 11th April 2008 with the caption ACHA IN BIG SCAM.
He said
the SLP wants the public to know that the said matter has speedily been investigated with all relevant documents sent to the
Director of Prosecution (DPP) for his legal advice on the 12th December 2007 because of the critical nature of the matter.
He added that since then there has been no response from the office of the DPP.
Inspector
Samura said the SLP is a professional force and cannot connive with fake diamond dealers to defraud the foreigners. Inspector
Samura said that it was the police that arrested three foreigners at the Lungi International Airport for carrying false documents
and fake diamonds. He continued by saying that it was at this time the foreigners realized that they had been duped. He said
that the publications that are in the above named newspaper are meant to destroy the very good image that the able and dedicated
IG has created for himself for the past years. In an angry mood, the Media boss said that such publications destroy the credibility
of the media of which he is an integral part.
He challenged the writers of those stories show the link
that the IG has with that transaction. He said that the person that is alleged to be duped, Pastor Dennis Forlyn, has never
named the IG in his allegations. He said the criminal investigations department (CID) never requested the sum of $200 from
the foreigners before their passports were released to them as stated in both articles.
He said
the Police did not act negligently. Therefore it is unfair to say they had accepted bribe from the alleged culprit and that
they were perverting justice as in both publications. He said both writers are bound to fulfill their duties by cross checking
their stories before publication.
