Disable International Foundation joins fight against Ebola

Founder of Disable International Sierra Leone, Imambay Kadie Kamara, has joined the fight against the deadly Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone. Madam Kamara has promised to ship medical items including antiseptics, gloves, wipes, hand sanitizers, Dettol, soaps and antibacterial cleaners as part of effort to eradicate the disease in the country.

She described the epidemic in West Africa in an interview from U.K as “heartbreaking.” “I am doing a lot of public awareness here in the media. To eradicate this deadly disease, I think we have to do more and more public awareness, and set up more testing centers.”

She disclosed that she has plans to organize a workshop for disable people in Sierra Leone. She commended the efforts of international partners and the government in the fight against Ebola in Sierra Leone. Mrs Kamara urges everyone not to forget the disable group in the fight, as according to her, “they are also very vulnerable to this deadly disease.”

On a separate note, Kamara who was with the Sierra Leone’s Olympic team during their participation at the recent Commonwealth games in Glasgow commended the team but reminded there is “room for improvement.” She said the Sierra Leone team needs more support. “I am sure if Government gives them the support, they will perform better.”

The philanthropist who provided financial and moral support to the team was among few Sierra Leoneans who travelled with the team from London to Glasgow to give her support. She said: “I am a proud Sierra Leonean; I love my country and the people. I was very proud to represent our national colors the Green, White and Blue to the world.”

She said she was very happy that the team appreciated her support and promised that she will continue her support. The Disable International Foundation is a charity which was launched in the United Kingdom on March 9th, 2013. It has its office here in Freetown and has been very active in supporting disable people in the country.

The foundation is working on upcoming events in the United Kingdom and Sierra Leone in the coming months.Madam Kamara recently appeared on popular U.K television BEN TV to raise awareness about the disease.

She wrote on her facebook page: “I am calling on all Sierra Leoneans around the world to join hands and help in the fight against this disease. Please let us help our people. Our people are dying but our help will make a difference.”
