As part of their public disclosure mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Heineken Foundation in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Brewery Limited (SLBL) has disbursed Le515M for the construction of a community health centre at Calaba Town, Ward 349 Constituency 97, east end Freetown.

The historic event took place on Tuesday 9th February, 2016 at Calaba Town with His Worship the Mayor, Franklyn Sam Bode Gibson of the Freetown Municipality, as Guest of Honour.

In his statement, the Corporate Relations Manager and Company Secretary SLBL, Albert O U Collier, pointed out that the initiative came up a year ago when the Secretary General of Heineken International paid an official visit to Sierra Leone during which he randomly visited some community clinics in east end Freetown, including the one they are supporting its construction.

He said they have also demonstrated the same in different community projects in Constituencies 97 and 98 on health community Infrastructure.

Mr. Collier noted that the said project duration is one year and will be handed over to the community for its official use to the general public when completed.

The Corporate Relations Manager called on authorities and community stakeholders to support the ongoing construction of the health clinic and make good use of it.

Hundreds of community groups, women organisations and community stakeholders graced the historic event.

Councillor Osman Koroma of Ward 349 in his statement thanked Heineken International and SLBL for their immense contributions to community development aimed at pushing the country forward.

He emphasized the desperate need for a health centre for Calaba Town which he described as a very large community.

The councillor assured that they will take ownership of the project by closely monitoring the contractors to ensure quality work is done for the benefit of the community people who are the beneficiaries.
